First, for those who are wondering, a bit about my health adventure! My energy continues to improve. The numbness and tingling and tight band sensations that I once felt throughout most of my body have subsided and are only present with any consistency in my left hand. My left hand, once deemed “useless” by neurologists, has returned to full function. Though it still “feels weird” when I use it, I am thrilled to have it back! I continue to hold confidence that I will recover completely from this episode of transverse cervical myelitis, though I remain uncertain of exactly when that will be.
As a result of these past months of living this challenge/opportunity (because it has been nothing less than an opportunity to see life, and my life specifically, differently), I have come to the difficult decision that I will not return to practicing chiropractic in the near future. I will pursue other ventures (like writing, teaching and consulting) that do not have the same level of physical demand as being a full time chiropractor. My current mantra is, “Trust that the path will unfold as you step into it”. And so I do.
But what does this mean for you? Dr. Chris Batterbee and his wife Mackenzie are buying Mayes Chiropractic and will be in the office on or before Monday, March 3 to transition into making the office their own as Bayside Family Chiropractic. I am excited to have the opportunity to welcome Dr. Batterbee, Mackenzie and their son, Beau, and to introduce you to the next line of excellent chiropractic care to come through the doors at Mayes Chiropractic!
Dr. Batterbee is a recent graduate of Palmer Chiropractic College and Mackenzie has had previous experience working in chiropractic offices. They are delightful, enthusiastic and well prepared to care for you and your family for years to come!
I will be forever grateful to Drs. James and Liz Phillip for their outstanding care of my practice and patients. I am so pleased that they will be able to continue for some time to help make your and the Batterbee’s transition as smooth as possible. While I will not be there full time, or be able to adjust patients, it is my intention to also be present on occasion at the office to aid in making your transition comfortable. Please do not hesitate to call the office if you have any questions!
You are invited to an Open House on Tuesday, March 11, from 3:00-6:00 p.m.. I would be honored to see you there and personally introduce you to the Batterbees, if you haven’t already met by that time!
With appreciation and gratitude and continued wishes for your amazing health,
Carrie Mayes, D.C.

Mayes Chiropractic is focused on optimizing your health through the care of your spine.
We provide chiropractic care for people of all ages, including pregnant women, infants and children. Many people wait until they are adults and in pain before they see a chiropractor. In reality, many subluxations occur during birth, infancy and childhood, and when corrected at an early age, before they become stuck, create far fewer health problems over a person’s lifetime. Most of our patients choose to get regular tune-ups to keep their body functioning at its highest potential. In doing so, they find that they have fewer episodes of back pain, better posture, and a stronger immune system, resulting in less illness and injury.
Trauma, the effects of repeated and poor postures, physical and mental stress and toxins can all create subluxations of spinal vertebrae. Subluxations are misalignments in the spinal joints that affect how the nerves, muscles, tendons and ligaments around the joint work, create swelling and pressure in the joint and reduce the function of the joint, which may or may not result in pain. Your nervous system regulates all systems and functions of the body. Subluxations interfere with this communication system, leading to less than perfect functioning of the body’s systems and processes. Removing subluxations through chiropractic adjustments allows the spinal joints to function as they are intended and needed and allows the nervous system to flow as freely as possible, resulting in the expression of your best health potential.
